Esther Carpenter and I (Tim), discussed organising all the information that Esther had been given over the years about the club into a supplement to Jack Southerden's book about the first 80 years of the club. Regretfully Esther had a massive stroke in October 2021, and is unable to carry on with the project, so I have decided to try and complete it.
Esther joined the club in 1950. She lived close to the Harrow Inn, where the club used to meet on Sunday mornings. Esther filled a range of roles in the club until the early 80s. What happened in 1984 will be part of the story.
I joined the club in the 60s and first raced in 1969 when I was about seven, on the Broad Oak ten course. The details of that first season are on the 1969 page. I too left the club in 1984, and rejoined in the 2000s.
Because of the range of material I have included sections for documents and photographs that are not directly related to the club, although for example the ESCA Magazine "Bonk" has contributions from the Club and infact Bonk was edited by Dennis Neeves and then by Maurice & Esther for many years.
