This page has a list of the East Sussex Cycling Association magazines (BONK) that I have scanned into the database. The Association was formed in 1946 and we have copies of BONK from the early 1950s.
It was the Spring of 1951 that the first issue of BONK appeared. It cost sixpence and was a sixteen page effort edited by A. Jack Rogers of Tunbridge Wells Albion, one of the Association’s Founder member clubs. It had a cover which had the word BONK printed from the block which had been used ever since.
There had been an ESCA magazine before that – a twelve page coverless publication known as the Handbook and Magazine costing threepence, which was produced by Roy Humphrey and printed by him on a flatbed duplicator.
The Hastings & St Leonards CC was one of the original members of the association and has had a long association with the magazine through Dennis Neeves and Esther & Maurice Carpenter who edited it.
For those who don't know, "Bonk" is that dreadful feeling when you have been on a long ride, failed to eat properly and your body is completly exhausted.
Files over 2MB are annotated with the file size.
